Straight outta Manchester, United Kingdom, Motley is, as his name suggests, is unlike any other artist you’ve heard before. Producer, MC and DJ, the man does it all. He began his musical journey as a DJ when he was 14 years old, turning to production five years later, and he hasn’t looked back since.
From around 2001, Motley began entering prestigious talent competitions, almost always ending up as a finalist, which in turn assisted him in sharing the stage with some of the biggest acts in the world. Household names such as De La Soul, Stereo MC’s, Dilated Peoples and Nas all put Motley on the bill. He has also made his way onto various TV sets, including BBC, MTV and Channel [V].
Motley’s production is what got the man noticed initially, with his left of center beats finding their way onto myriad of releases worldwide, including Stereo MC’s (Universal/Island, London, UK), Dynamite MC (Talkin’ Loud, London, UK), FiggKidd (UndaK9/Sony, Sydney, Australia), DJ Peril (Street Elite/Fly Music/Warner, Melbourne, Australia), and Bliss N Eso (Illusive Sounds, Sydney, Australia), where he produced and featured on their hit single “Party At My Place”.
Australia has had a big affect on Motley, as he has worked with a number of the larger artists in the country and made a lasting impression on the scene. He has produced, collaborated and toured with the likes of DJ Peril and Weapon X & Ken Hell, performing to capacity crowds all around the country. And it is on tour where Motley really shines – his live performances are second to none, his energy nothing short of contagious, and most of the time he rocks without a hype man.
Although Motley has achieved success all around the globe, he still holds it down for Manchester. In 2006, Motley independently released his debut LP Separated At Birth which gained much success in the UK Hip Hop scene and turned some heads in Australia.
Now apart of the Hooded Ink family Motley is working on his much anticipated mixtape, EP and album. Keep your ear to the concrete. |
